Organiser rules

Guests trust you with their details. These short rules protect them, and they protect you.

Last updated 18 October 2026

In one sentence: only contact people who agreed to hear from you, make it easy to say no, and look after the list as you would want yours looked after.

1. You are responsible for your guest list

When guests join your event through Nect Me, you receive their details for the purpose of running that event, and for anything else they agreed to. From that moment you are the "data controller" of what you receive. That means you, not Nect Me, are responsible for using it lawfully under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

2. Only email people you are allowed to

  • Invite guests who shared their email with you and agreed to hear about your future events.
  • Invite people you already have a lawful reason to contact, for example a customer you have an existing relationship with, who has been offered a clear way to opt out.
  • Do not upload purchased or scraped lists. Do not add people who have asked not to be contacted.
  • When you add addresses yourself, you confirm that you have the right to email them about your event.

3. Send carefully

  • Invite a small group at a time, chosen because the event is relevant to them. There is no "send to everyone" button, and that is on purpose.
  • Write something personal and honest. Be clear who the email is from and what the event is.
  • Do not mislead people, and do not use Nect Me to promote anything other than your event.
  • We send invitations gradually and apply a daily limit to protect inboxes. We may pause sending if many people complain, unsubscribe or report an email.

4. Honour every unsubscribe

Every invitation contains a one-tap unsubscribe link. When someone uses it, we stop emailing them through Nect Me. You must not contact them again by other means for the same purpose. If someone tells you they do not want to hear from you, tell us or remove them from your own lists straight away.

5. Look after the data

  • Download your guest list only when you need it, keep it somewhere secure, and delete it when you no longer need it.
  • Do not share guests' details with other companies, sell them, or use them for anything guests would not expect.
  • If you suspect a data breach involving guest details, contact us straight away and follow your own legal duties, which may include telling the ICO within 72 hours.

6. Treat people well

  • Run your event safely and fairly. You are responsible for the venue, safety and any laws that apply.
  • Do not use guest details to harass, pressure or approach anyone who has not shown interest.
  • Respect requests from guests to be removed or to have their details corrected.

7. If you break the rules

We may remove an event, limit or pause invitations, or close an organiser's account, particularly if guests are put at risk or complaints rise. We will explain why, wherever we can.

Not legal advice. These rules summarise good practice. If you are unsure whether you may email a particular group, check with a lawyer or the ICO's guidance for organisations.
